ALIGNED AS YOU · HUMAN DESIGN EDUCATION
These three elements are the foundation of your entire Human Design chart and understanding them is where everything begins to click.
If you've ever felt like you were running on the wrong operating system, like you were working twice as hard for half the results or making decisions that looked good on paper but felt hollow in your body - this is for you...
Human Design is a system that maps your unique energy, and at the very heart of it sit three foundational elements: your Type, your Strategy, and your Authority. Together, they form what I call the holy trinity of your design. Once you understand these three things and more importantly, once you start living them everything else begins to shift.
This isn't about following a new set of rules. It's about finally being given permission to work with your own nature instead of against it. Think of it less like a personality test and more like being handed the manual to the unique human you already are.
Let's break it all down...
Part One: Your Type - How You're Wired to Move Through the World
Your Type is the first thing most people discover when they pull their Human Design chart and for good reason - it's the most fundamental layer of your design. It describes your energetic nature: how your aura works, how you best interact with the world around you and what your overall role in the collective is.
There are five Types in Human Design, and each one has a completely different energetic signature. Not better or worse just different. The way a Generator experiences energy is nothing like the way a Projector does and that's not a flaw in either of them. It's just design.
So many of the patterns we try to fix about ourselves, the inconsistency, the need for rest, the way we process decisions, the moments we seem to run dry - make complete sense once we understand our Type. We were never failing. We were just being measured against the wrong standard.
The Five Types at a Glance
Generator ~37% of people The life force of the world |
Strategy: Wait to respond Signature (aligned): Satisfaction Not-Self (out of alignment): Frustration If you're a Generator, you are the literal life force of the planet. You carry a powerful, sustainable energy source in your Sacral centre and when it's pointed at something you genuinely love, you can go all day. The magic of your design is in your gut response: that instinctive 'mm-hmm' or 'unh-unh' that arises before your mind has time to overthink it. You're here to build, create, and sustain but only the things that truly light you up. |
Manifesting Generator ~33% of people The multi-passionate creator |
Strategy: Respond, then inform Signature (aligned): Satisfaction + Peace Not-Self (out of alignment): Frustration + Anger Like the Generator, you have a powerful Sacral response but you also carry Manifestor-like qualities that let you move fast, skip steps and juggle multiple passions at once. You were never meant to do just one thing. The key for you is to respond first (check in with your gut) and then inform the people around you before you act. You're built for beautiful, productive chaos and that's a gift, not a problem. |
Manifestor ~9% of people The initiator and trailblazer |
Strategy: Inform before acting Signature (aligned): Peace Not-Self (out of alignment): Anger Manifestors are the only Type in Human Design that is truly built to initiate action without waiting for external triggers. You carry a closed, powerful aura that can feel intense to others, not because something is wrong with you, but because your energy is catalytic. You're here to start things, spark movements and act on your own inspiration. Your Strategy is to inform the people your actions will impact, it isn't about asking permission. It's about reducing the resistance that can slow you down. |
Projector ~20% of people The wise guide and systems thinker |
Strategy: Wait for the invitation Signature (aligned): Success Not-Self (out of alignment): Bitterness If you're a Projector, you have a focused, penetrating aura that is designed to deeply understand people and systems. You can see what others miss. You know how to guide energy in ways that are powerful and precise. But here's the thing, your wisdom lands differently when it's been invited. When you offer your gifts without the right recognition or invitation, they often go unappreciated and that's where the bitterness creeps in. Waiting for the right invitations isn't passivity; it's wisdom. Your time and energy are precious. Protect them. |
Reflector ~1% of people The mirror and wise evaluator |
Strategy: Wait a lunar cycle Signature (aligned): Delight Not-Self (out of alignment): Disappointment Reflectors are the rarest of all Types and perhaps the most profoundly misunderstood. You have no defined Centres in your chart, which means you're constantly taking in and amplifying the energy of the people and environments around you. This makes you exquisitely sensitive to your surroundings - that sensitivity is your gift, not your weakness. You are here to reflect the health and vitality of your community. Major decisions benefit from a full lunar cycle of waiting, not because you're indecisive, but because your clarity genuinely moves in seasons. |
Your Type is not a box to fit yourself into, Its a window to finally see yourself clearly.
Part Two: Your Strategy - Your Energetic Operating System
If your Type tells you what kind of energy you carry, your Strategy is the instruction manual for how to move through the world with the least resistance and the most flow.
Here's the honest truth: most of us spend a huge amount of energy trying to force things. Initiating when we're meant to respond. Pushing when we're meant to wait. Waiting when we're meant to initiate. And then wondering why life feels so hard.
Your Strategy isn't about being passive or giving up your power. It's about working with the natural current of your design instead of paddling upstream. It's the difference between effort and elegance.
Each Type has its own Strategy, directly tied to how its aura naturally engages with the world:
Type | Strategy | What it really means |
Generator | Wait to respond | Don't go chasing opportunities out of thin air. Let life bring things to your door, then check your gut. Your power is in the response, not the initiation. |
Manifesting Generator | Respond, then inform | Same as the Generator, but once your gut says yes, loop in the people who'll be affected before you launch into action. Then move fast, you were built for it. |
Manifestor | Inform before acting | Your actions ripple out and affect others, sometimes in ways you don't see. Informing isn't asking for permission, it's a courtesy that clears the path for your power to flow freely. |
Projector | Wait for the invitation | Not every invitation, mind you - the right ones. The ones where your gifts are genuinely recognised and wanted. When that happens, step in fully and share everything you see. |
Reflector | Wait a lunar cycle | Before making big decisions, give yourself the gift of a full lunar cycle. Talk to different people. Notice how your feelings shift. Your clarity comes in its own season, and that's a profound intelligence. |
What I find most beautiful about Strategy is that it tends to feel counter-intuitive at first, especially in a culture that celebrates constant hustle and bold initiation. For Projectors especially, waiting for invitations can feel passive or even a little scary. For Generators, sitting with a gut response rather than diving head-first into action requires practice.
But when you start to experiment with your Strategy, even just noticing when you override it and how that feels, the feedback comes quickly. Life has a way of confirming when you're in alignment.
When you honour your Strategy, you're not giving up control. You're moving with the current of your own design instead of fighting it.
Part Three: Your Authority - The Body's Built-In Compass
If there's one piece of Human Design that genuinely changes people's lives, it's understanding their Authority.
We've been taught, almost universally, to make decisions with our minds. To list the pros and cons. To research and analyse. To weigh everything logically before committing. And while the mind is extraordinary at processing information, Human Design offers us a radical reframe: the mind was never designed to make decisions. Its job is to reflect and communicate, not to choose.
Your Authority is your body's built-in decision-making intelligence. It's the part of you that knows before your mind gets involved. And it's completely unique to you.
When you make decisions in alignment with your Authority, you'll notice less second-guessing, less regret, and a quiet sense of inner rightness - even when the decision doesn't look neat or logical from the outside. When you override your Authority and make decisions purely from the mind? That's often where the doubt, the people-pleasing, and the 'how did I end up here again?' moments come from.
The Seven Authorities
Sacral Authority The gut knows - right now, in this moment |
Available to Generators and Manifesting Generators, Sacral Authority is perhaps the most immediate and physical of all the Authorities. It lives in your lower abdomen - that primal, instinctive knowing that shows up as a surge of energy (yes) or a flat deflation (no). It doesn't reason. It just responds. The practice here is learning to tune into that initial gut response before your mind jumps in to override it. Yes/no questions work beautifully for Sacral types. If someone asks 'do you want to do this?' and you feel that warm expansion in your body - that's your yes. Trust it. |
Emotional (Solar Plexus) Authority Clarity comes after the wave, not in it |
The most common Authority, shared by around half of all people, Emotional Authority is about riding the full spectrum of your emotional wave before committing to significant decisions. This doesn't mean you're unstable, it means your wisdom lives in the full experience of your emotions, not just the peak or the trough. If you have Emotional Authority, sleeping on decisions, sitting with them across different emotional states and noticing how you feel on both a high and a low day is not overthinking - it's your design. Never commit in the heat of the moment. Never commit in the depths of a low. Wait for that settled, quiet 'yes' that exists somewhere in the middle. |
Splenic Authority A quiet whisper in the present moment |
Splenic Authority is subtle, spontaneous and speaks exactly once - in the present moment. It's that quiet inner knowing, often felt as a physical sensation or an instinctive awareness that something is or isn't right for you. Right now. In this moment. The challenge with Splenic Authority is that the mind tends to drown it out. That soft 'no' gets overridden by logic, politeness or fear. The practice is learning to stay quiet enough to hear the spleen's subtle signal and to act on it quickly, before the moment passes. |
Ego / Heart Authority Decisions from the place of genuine desire |
Ego Authority (sometimes called Heart Authority) comes from the heart center and is about making decisions based on what you truly want and genuinely have the will to follow through on. This Authority is rare and for those who carry it, the key question is: 'Do I actually want this? Can I commit to this wholeheartedly?' This isn't about ego in the conventional sense. It's about being deeply honest with yourself about your desire and capacity. If the heart says yes with full conviction, proceed. If there's even a whisper of 'I should' rather than 'I want to' - that's worth pausing on. |
Self-Projected Authority Clarity through the sound of your own voice |
Available only to a specific type of Projector, Self-Projected Authority is about talking things through out loud to gain clarity. Not to get advice but to hear yourself. There's something about speaking your truth aloud that helps these individuals sort through what's real and what's noise. If you have this Authority, surround yourself with trusted people who can hold space for you to process out loud without jumping in to fix or advise. The clarity you're looking for is already inside you - you just need to speak it into the open air to find it. |
Mental (Environmental) Authority Wisdom that emerges through conversation and environment |
Mental Projectors are the rarest of all, and their Authority works differently to the rest. With no defined Centers below the Throat, their inner knowing emerges through conversation with trusted others and through paying attention to which environments feel right and which feel wrong. This Authority is about witnessing yourself - noticing what lights up and what deflates as you move through different conversations and spaces. The right decision will feel clarifying. The wrong one will feel murky, regardless of what the logic says. |
Lunar Authority The wisdom of cycles and seasons |
Exclusive to Reflectors, Lunar Authority is tied to the 28-day moon cycle. Because Reflectors have no defined Centers, their experience of each decision shifts as the moon moves through the gates of the Human Design mandala. A decision that feels right on day three might feel entirely different on day fourteen. The invitation for Reflectors is to journal, to speak with many different trusted people across the full lunar cycle, to notice how their relationship to a decision evolves over time. Rushing this process is the thing most likely to lead to disappointment. The wait is the wisdom. |
Your mind is extraordinary. But it was never meant to carry the weight of your decisions. Your body has been doing that job all along - you just haven't been listening.
Why These Three Work Together and Why All Three Matter
Here's where it gets really good...
Type, Strategy, and Authority aren't three separate things to understand in isolation. They're a complete system and when you live all three in alignment, something genuinely extraordinary happens.
Your Type tells you the energetic context you're operating in. Your Strategy tells you how to move through the world so opportunities and people come to you with less friction. And your Authority tells you how to discern, once something arrives, whether it's actually right for you.
Think of it this way... imagine you're a Projector. Your aura is focused, penetrating, and designed to guide and direct energy. You're built for deep wisdom and precise insight. Now imagine that a huge opportunity arrives. Your Type tells you that your energy is precious and not built for constant output - so what arrives needs to be worth it. Your Strategy tells you to wait for an invitation that genuinely recognises your gifts - not just any opportunity, but the right one. And your Authority (let's say Splenic) tells you to tune into that instant, quiet inner knowing about whether this specific opportunity is actually aligned for you, right now, in your body.
Without all three? You might take every opportunity that comes along (exhaustion). Or wait for invitations but say yes to the wrong ones (more exhaustion, different flavour). Or respond to your gut feeling in the moment without having waited for the right context at all (scattered energy, resistance from others).
Together, they create a complete decision-making and energy management system that's been personalised, from the moment of your birth, specifically for you.
Type is your energetic nature. Strategy is how you move. Authority is how you choose. Together, they're your complete blueprint for alignment.
A Word on the Not-Self Theme - Your Alignment Radar
Every Type also carries what's called a Not-Self Theme - an emotion that arises as a signal that you've been overriding your Strategy and Authority. Think of it as your built-in misalignment alert.
Generators and Manifesting Generators experience frustration as their Not-Self Theme. If you're a Generator who's been initiating instead of responding, or saying yes to things that don't actually light you up, frustration is the body's way of saying: this isn't right.
Projectors experience bitterness. That low, heavy feeling that arrives when your wisdom goes unrecognised, when you've been pouring energy into spaces that never really invited you in, when you've been trying to operate like a Generator instead of honouring your need for rest and recognition.
Manifestors experience anger when they haven't been able to act on their inspiration, when they feel controlled or micromanaged, or when the people around them haven't been informed and resistance has built up.
Reflectors experience disappointment - that deep letdown that comes from being in the wrong environment, around the wrong people, trying to define themselves in fixed ways when their nature is gloriously fluid.
These Not-Self emotions aren't failures. They're feedback. They're your design speaking to you, gently (and sometimes not so gently) pointing you back toward alignment.
Frustration, bitterness, anger, disappointment - these aren't signs that something is wrong with you. They're your body saying: come back to yourself.
Where to Start - The Invitation to Experiment
Human Design calls its process 'the experiment' for a reason. It's not a set of rules to follow perfectly. It's an invitation to become curious about your own experience, to notice what happens when you honour your Strategy and Authority and what happens when you don't.
The beautiful thing about starting with just these three elements is that even subtle shifts can have a profound ripple effect. A Generator who starts checking in with their gut before saying yes. A Projector who lets themselves rest without guilt and waits for the invitation that feels truly right. An Emotional Authority person who makes one big decision only after riding their full emotional wave instead of in the heat of the moment.
It sounds simple. Sometimes it even sounds too simple. But the depth of change that unfolds when you stop overriding your own nature is genuinely remarkable.
This is the work I do at Aligned As You - helping women understand their design at a real, embodied level and begin living it in practical, meaningful ways. Not from theory, but from experience. Not as a new identity to perform, but as a permission slip to finally be exactly who they are.
